Almost everyone in the world needs a job
And whether you like it or not, sooner or later you'll find yourself on a shelf in the job market, trying to convince someone you're worth buying
The job market is essentially solved
For many job roles, both supply and demand are fully visible to all participants - job postings are available globally and so are resumes. This makes it easy for recruiters to search for talent for open positions
The modern job market is essentially a social networking platform
The combination of visibility, connections and the presence of recruiters creates performative pressure on potential candidates. Posting updates about career milestones becomes intermingled with how well you did in last weekend's marathon, holiday pictures celebrating wellness and relaxation, etc., even though most of this is only vaguely related to job performance
Maybe you'd rather not participate in recruitability theater
Maybe you just want to look at jobs that are relevant to you - or share job postings that you know of, either with your current or previous employer. Maybe someone in your network is looking for candidates, and you don't mind helping out. Either way, that can be done without recruiters - and the social performance their presence elicits
How it works
1. Post a link to the job
You don't have to pitch it - in fact, there's no option to add anything beyond the job title and hiring company
2. People can comment and ask questions
"So what's the culture like?"
And you're invited to answer honestly:
"Same old, you'll be filling out timesheets and asking project managers for permission before you write any code"
3. No personal brand required
No profile picture, resume or even your real name is necessary - you can participate without performing
This is an experiment, not a promise that every answer is true. Ask questions, share what you know and use your judgement
